Armed with 3-D Printers, Amateurs Challenge the Medtech Paradigm: Hand Without a Hook

  Jordan Nickerson, who was born without a left hand, was turned off by the mechanical, hook-style hand prostheses that were available when he was a kid, so the Portland Community College computer science student 3-D printed a better version using equipment at the school’s MakerSpace interdisciplinary innovation studio. His materials included two types of plastic, carbon fiber, and even a mouse pad.
