Why Fitbit is Medtech's Next Biggest Thing

This week, Fitbit is on Omar Ford 's mind. MD+DI's managing editor breaks down why he believes the company has the potential to become a medtech powerhouse.

Earlier this month, Fitbit made a move that was a pretty big deal. The company announced it had received Emergency Use Authorization for or a low-cost emergency ventilator to help address patients’ needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The EUA follows a pattern of significant moves the San Francisco, CA-based company has made over the past few years.

From big collaborations to conducting studies, to receiving nods from FDA, the wearables company is positioning itself to be highly effective in the medtech industry.

As it stands now Fitbit is set to be acquired by Google. But that hasn't stopped the company from expanding its presence in medtech.
