Mocon Partners to Form Mumbai Testing Lab

Indian medical device OEMs have often relied on universities for their packaging needs, but now they have a new option. Mocon (Minneapolis) has teamed up with Hemetek Techno Instruments, an instrumentation testing and service company based in Mumbai, India, to start a testing lab in Mumbai.

The testing center, which opened in January, is operated by Hemetek and offers barrier and headspace analysis, leak detection, and burst testing for medical device packaging customers. Water, vapor, oxygen, and carbon dioxide permeation testing services are also available.

For those wanting to learn more about Mocon equipment, the Mumbai lab hosts a two-day, hands-on permeation packaging training program. Mocon has already established testing labs in the United States, Germany, and China. It said it is targeting strategic locations such as India to create a global testing footprint. “Our partnership with Hemetek will bring a high level of certified testing to one of the fastest-growing marketplaces—the Indian subcontinent,” says Alan Shema, product manager for Mocon’s consulting and test services.

Shema emphasizes the importance of the lab being certified. He says it ensures that customers that use the Mumbai facility will find the same level of quality that is offered at Mocon’s headquarters in the United States. —Lindsey Rooney
