The medical device industry often complains that regulators keeps lifesaving medical devices from getting to market in a timely fashion. Patient activists, on the other hand, say the agency hasn't done enough to protect patients from dangerous devices.

Despite the countless medical devices that have saved and improved lives, there are occasionally devices that seem to squeak by with minimal oversight and end up tarnishing the industry's reputation in addition to harming patients.
