Carotid artery stents received a lot of hype when they hit the market, but also drew a lot of concern about safety and about how much of a benefit they provided over carotid endarectomy. But a study presented at the Society of Interventional Radiology annual meeting should alleviate some of those fears, according to a report by Pain & Central Nervous System Week that's available on devicelink.com.

It showed significant brain function improvement in both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with carotid artery stents. Hopefully this will help the procedure catch on.
