A recall of Maquet Medical Systems' Tiger Paw System II was announced in March 2015 after it was found that "incomplete closure" of the system could cause heart tissue tears and bleeding. The Tiger Paw System II is made by Laax, Inc., which is owned by Maquet Medical Systems. The device is a staple used in open surgery to block off the left atrial appendage of the heart. According to the FDA recall release, Maquet Medical Systems received notice of one death and 51 adverse event reports. |
