Perhaps some of Kurzweil's most intriguing predictions begin to emerge by the 2040s. He says that humans and non-biological machines will merge so effectively the differences between the two will not only be virtually indistinguishable, but will hardly matter, as human intelligence is transformed for the better.

Kurzweil predicts that the 2040s will see non-biological intelligence soar to over a billion times more capable than human intelligence. As such, we will see nanotech foglets capable of constructing any physical object at a whim. He likened the concept to the transition from buying a physical record from the music store, to now simply downloading or emailing files to access music.

He even predicts that by 2045, we will increase our intelligence by a billionfold by wirelessly linking our own human neocortex to a synthetic neocortex in the cloud, enhancing our cognitive capabilities to heights beyond imagination.
