And for that matter, device industry professionals may be well versed in their niche but not as much so in other disciplines. With recent radiation incidents prompting many people to discover just what exactly happens in medical imaging procedures, a nice guide to various imaging technologies might be helpful. In its latest issue, Los Angeles Times Magazine breaks down medical imaging for the laypeople. As writer Shaun Samuels, MD, puts it, "Preposterous amounts of data are acquired, processed, and reconstructed in microseconds, and astonishing images pop up on a screen as if by magic." His brief overview also gives some examples of what kind of conditions warrant each procedure.
