Packaging

Sterile packaging services

Contract packaging of products in sterile barrier pouches is available on a company's 18-in.-wide form-fill-seal machine. The machine can package products in pouch sizes ranging from 2 × 2 in. up to 18 × 22 in. Pouches are custom printed with customers' information and are made from materials such as Tyvek, PET, foil, and paper. The packaging process is validated to CGMP requirements, and is run in a controlled manufacturing environment.

Sealant

Manufacturers looking to solve clean-peel-lidding issues can benefit from a proprietary sealant. Allegro M can be extrusion coated onto various substrates, including film, foil, or paper, to create a clean peel. The material seals to rigid cup or tray structures including high-impact polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, amorphous polyethylene terephthalate, polypropylene, and high-density polyethylene. Allegro M seals at low temperatures and offers a wide operating window. It is suitable for diagnostic cartridges, prefilled syringes, and other medical devices.

Void-fill system

Converters can use single-ply, 15-in. fanfold kraft paper to create a star-shaped tube of paper to fill voids in a box. FillPak TT is operated with a foot pedal and dispenses the void-fill product directly into the box. The unit generates paper void-fill material at a speed of 60 in./sec. It can be configured as floor-standing or on a table to fit any packaging area, and can be converted into a battery-operated unit when electrical outlets are not available.

Header bags

Precision-engineered header bags are made from materials such as coated DuPont 1059B and 1073B Tyvek. The header bags are available in 3- and 4-mil linear low-density polyethylene in sizes up to 24 × 34 in. Printing in as many as four colors and wicket packaging are also available. The company also provides pouches and die-cut and square-cut lids for rigid trays.

Loose-pouch feeder

A loose-pouch feeder does not cut pouches from a roll. It controls them from loose bulk quantities, so there is no risk of an opened pouch spilling its contents into the container or tray. The system can be used as a stand-alone unit or it can be retrofitted onto existing or new packaging equipment or lines. It can be attached to cartoners, baggers, bucket conveyors, and tray thermoformers.

Form-fill-seal machine

A form-fill-seal machine is designed to use a company's autoload modules. Items such as syringes, IVD test kits, desiccant pouches, or medical devices can be loaded into the V-fold-style system to yield a four-sided pouch. The system can also print. Packages up to 8 in. deep and 20 in. wide can be formed and filled on the standard system, which can be modified to handle other sizes as well. Rates up to 80 pouches per minute are possible on the machine.

Modular belt conveyors

A company offers miniroller accumulation zones as part of its modular belt conveyors. The integrated design of the components provides safe loading and unloading points at the ends of running continuous-belt conveyors. Built-in rollers are inherently level and aligned to the conveyor belting to create seamless transfers. The miniroller zones are offered in 6-, 12-, 15-, and 24-in. widths, and standard lengths of 24 in. can be fully integrated at the beginning or end of all the firm's conveyors.
