Metalworkers can take advantage of a lifting magnet for moving materials up to 4400 lb. The EZ-Lift magnet is available from Earth-Chain USA (Indianapolis), a division of Techniks Inc. that specializes in magnetic work-holding, deburring, and other magnetic products and accessories for metalworking. Made from neodymium iron boron, a rare-earth metal, the magnet is said to be five times more powerful than magnets made from other metals and requires no electricity to operate.

According to the manufacturer, the lifting magnet is safer and faster to use than sling and strap systems, because the magnet will not slip or break. It is easier to load and unload because the operator simply centers the magnet on the metal to be lifted and throws the lever to engage the magnet.

"Our customers use the magnets to load and unload workpieces and molds from their CNC equipment, and to transport all types of iron and steel. They also work great for moving flat or round stock around the shop," said John Swann, company sales manager.

The lifting magnet is only for use with ferrous-based metals like iron and steel. It is available in five different sizes to safely lift up to 4400 lb.
