A provider of carbon dioxide lasers and computer-controlled carbon dioxide laser engraving, cutting, and marking systems, Universal Laser Systems Inc. (Scottsdale, AZ; www.ulsinc.com) has doubled the size of its U.S.-based headquarters by opening a second facility in Scottsdale. . . . A designer and manufacturer of high-performance fractional-horsepower linear actuators, leadscrew assemblies, rotary stepper motors, and hermetically sealed switches, Haydon Switch & Instrument Inc. (Waterbury, CT; www.hsi-inc.com), along with its parent company Tritex (Waterbury, CT; www.tritexcorporation.com), has been acquired by Harbour Group (St. Louis), which controls several companies engaged in manufacturing and distributing consumer and industrial products. . . . Sterling Tech Software (Tenafly, NJ; www.sterlingtech software.com), a developer of custom software for the medical device industry, has purchased a new facility in Rochelle Park, NJ. The building adds more than 7500 sq ft of office and laboratory space to the company’s existing operations in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Texas. . . . A design, molding, and manufacturing company for the medical device industry, SMC Ltd. (Somerset, WI; www.smcltd.com) has acquired Cycles Inc. (Sterling, MA), a custom plastic injection molder. The acquisition adds three facilities with more than 114,000 sq ft of space combined, three Class 100,000 cleanrooms, tool-making capabilities, and 45 molding presses ranging from 5 to 300 tn.
