A cutting blade manufacturer, Specialty Blades Inc. (Staunton, VA; www.specialtyblades.com), has entered into a letter of intent to purchase Popper and Sons Inc. (New Hyde Park, NY; www.popperandsons.com), a supplier of needle and tubular products. . . . Ceramaret (Bôle, Switzerland; www.ceramaret.ch) is celebrating its 100th year in business. The company manufactures ceramic components and analytical equipment for the medical device industry. . . . New England Precision Grinding Inc. (NEPG; Holliston, MA; www.nepg1.com), a manufacturer of wire and tubing products, has acquired American Medical Instruments Inc. (Dartmouth, MA; www.amiinc.com). The company, which manufactures devices such as spinal needles and orthopedic wires, will become a wholly owned subsidiary of NEPG and will continue to operate out of its Dartmouth facility. . . . To broaden its product and technology offerings, SurModics Inc. (Eden Prairie, MN; www.surmodics.com) has acquired BioFX Laboratories Inc. (Owings Mills, MD; www.biofx.com), a provider of substrates to the in vitro diagnostics industry. SurModics provides surface-modification and drug-delivery products.
