B. Braun Reaches Custom Manufacturers with Expanded Space

GUIDE TO OUTSOURCING: OUTSOURCING NEWS

B. Braun OEM Division has just opened a new manufacturing space in Allentown, PA. The facility has 71,000 sq ft for custom product manufacturing and an additional 16,500 sq ft for an ISO Class 8 cleanroom to be used for injection molding. The company says that the addition was necessary to accommodate its projected volume for outsourced medical device manufacturing.

“We're seeing continued demand for contract manufacturing services, especially on finished assemblies and customized and specialty products,” says Tom Black, vice president of sales and marketing for the company.
The specialty products manufacturing space was designed to handle relatively low-volume, manual, and semiautomated device assembly and production. Its production lines and work cells can be interchanged to accommodate production needs. A dedicated packaging area offers most packaging options, including soft blister, pouch, and tray.
The plastic injection molding area houses 30 presses ranging from 55 to 3300 tn. The Class 8 cleanroom reduces airborne particulates, and its high ceilings enable use of larger tools and robotic automation machines. A centralized, overhead resin-feeding system further minimizes particulates and makes drying efficient. Both the packaging and molding areas integrate lean manufacturing techniques.
