The Kalamazoo, Michigan company has been growing through acquisitions. In September 2013 it bought Mako Surgical and earlier in the year in January, the orthopedics company announced that it was buying Chinese device maker Trauson.

As a result, the company ending up adding 2,990 positions in the last five years year bringing total headcount to 25,000 in 2013.
