Originally Published MPMN September 2002INDUSTRY NEWSLSA Laser Services and Automation Acquires Oeuvre TechnologySusan WallaceIn order to provide its customers with greater technical capabilities, LSA Laser Services and Automation (Plymouth, MN) has acquired Oeuvre Technology (also in Plymouth; www.oeuvretechnology.com), a precision parts manufacturer.Oeuvre Technology specializes in laser cutting and microwelding of precision metal components for the medical and electronics industries. Capabilities include welding of round wire as small as 0.002 in. in diameter, and welding very thin-walled tubing (down to 0.0015-in. wall thickness) in diameters to 0.010 in. The products are made from such materials as stainless steel, platinum, iridium, and titanium. Applications include stents, medical device delivery systems, surgical tools, and other medical products.LSA Laser Services and Automation is an FDA-compliant laser component manufacturer specializing in microwelding and machining. The company uses four-axis computer numerically controlled laser welding and cutting systems, and computer-aided design systems for component design. Products are used in guidewires, pacing leads, surgical instruments, electrical leads, and assemblies.The combined companies will have annual sales in the $2.5 million range, according to LSA president Tom Noll. Oeuvre will merge its equipment and employees into LSA's Plymouth facilities this spring and the combined company will employ 13 technical and office staff in an 11,000-sq-ft facility.Mark Dustrude, president of Oeuvre, says, "We are excited about aligning ourselves with a technically strong company like LSA.
