Priamus System Technologies LLC (Brunswick, OH; www. priamus.com) has opened a facility that will house the firm’s training initiative, P3: Precision PVT Processing. With this program, the company plans to impart its specialized method for injection molding to other companies in the industry.Priamus’s injection molding process differs from those of its competitors by the measuring of plastic pressure and temperature in the mold cavity during the procedure. Because the thermoplastic changes from a liquid to a solid state during the molding process, this act of measuring pressure, volume, and temperature (PVT) ensures that part quality is consistent. Process consistency results in fewer defects in the mold. The program consists of three tiers. Each tier comprises a three-day lecture and lab course. Each level examines the PVT processing approach from a different angle: Level 1, “Pellet to Part,” covers the basic PVT approach to injection molding; Level II, “The PVT Chamber,” details how the mold acts as a PVT chamber; and Level III, “The PVT Pinnacle,” outlines effective use of PVT-based, closed-loop control systems for specific applications.“We want to educate people so they understand how plastic behaves in a mold,” says Priamus president Susan Montgomery. “We want to make our customers successful so they have a competitive advantage in the marketplace and so they have the knowledge to do so.”Priamus has hired a full-time trainer who will run the program. To maximize learning potential, the company places attendees in class sizes totaling only four to six students. The company also provides on-site training upon request.Copyright ©2005 Medical Product Manufacturing News
