Teknor Apex Releases Medalist MD-200 Series TPV Elastomers

A supplier of materials products to the medical industry has released a series of recyclable thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) elastomers spanning the hardness range of 15–80 Shore A. The Medalist MD-200 series exhibits high purity and resilience as possible replacements for rubber in such medical device applications as stoppers, seals, and gaskets. It also compares favorably with other thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) in terms of performance and processability. Formulated from scratch by the company, these elastomers are nohygroscopic and have a pale natural color that allows efficient use of colorants. They feature low compression set, lower oxygen absorption than nonvulcanizate TPEs, a low coefficient of friction, and good resistance to chemicals and high temperatures. Certified to pass ISO 10993-5 tests, the TPV elastomers are additionally able to withstand sterilization by steam, autoclaving, and gamma-irradiation processes.
