For more than 15 years, the Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) program has showcased the highest-caliber medical devices on the market. Each year, the program honors the best products in 10 categories—critical-care and emergency medicine, dental, finished medical packaging, general hospital and therapeutic devices, implant and tissue-replacement, in vitro diagnostics, over-the-counter and self-care, radiological and electromechanical devices, rehabilitation and assistive-technology, and surgical. Jurors also choose one product from among the winners to be named best in show.
This year's finalists join a long line of innovative products that have been honored with MDEAs over the years. Since 1998, the competition has recognized disruptive technologies as well as product iterations that have the potential to improve clinical outcomes and achieve commercial success. Read on to learn about the trends that emerged from this year's competition, see which products rose from the ranks to be named finalists, get to know our esteemed jurors, and take a look back at some past winners over the program's history.
We hope you can join us June 19 for the MDEA program's 15th anniversary celebration and the announcement of this year's winners at a special ceremony at the Medical Design & Manufacturing East conference and exhibition in Philadelphia.
And if you think your medical device has what it takes to win next year, the 2014 MDEA competition opens for submissions in October 2013.
