Anne Wojcicki is co-founder and CEO of 23andMe, the consumer genetic testing company. Wojcicki made DNA testing a household phenomenon as people eager to have their ancestry traced and their potential for disease analyzed signed up in droves for its $99 test based on saliva samples.

The FDA cracked down on this activity given that the company was attempting to provide diagnostic information, which would bring it under the agency's regulatory purview. Now the company is providing only ancestry information although it has submitted one health report for approval. Although hurt by the warning letter, Wojcicki still wins praise for bringing to consumers easy access to gene testing for health purposes. And FDA warnings nonetheless, she is far from being done.
