MD&M East Supplier Focus: Teleflex Medical OEM

At MD&M East, Teleflex Medical OEM featured Force Fiber OrthoTape (shown below), which is designed to be gentle on tissue and won't pull through as easily as suture of similar size and composition. "It is ideal for applications where tissue pull-through may be a concern," says Jim McCormack, manager of global marketing communications at the company.

The company offers custom-enginneered medical balloons and balloon catheters for a variety of peripheral, coronary, and neurovascular applications.

In the following Q&A, McCormack shares his thoughts on how the medtech industry is evolving and what he's most excited about technologically.

Qmed: How do you see the demands of medical device manufacturers changing in 2015?

McCormack: We've watched the medical device world go through a tremendous amount of change. Consolidation. Reduction in the R&D staff and investment. Elimination of many in-house production environments. As a result, Teleflex Medical OEM transformed itself from being an "outsider" used for contract manufacturing into an integral part of customers' R&D and engineering teams for device development and production. We are the trusted partner that knows the ins and outs of materials and their best applications, and will provide the integrated capabilities that can save on development time and cost.

Qmed: What are you most excited about technologically?

McCormack: Clinical procedures requiring the delivery of stents and transcatheter heart valves are on the rise across the world. Teleflex Medical OEM, with its history of extrusion and catheter-based delivery systems, can develop and produce interventional catheters required to deploy a stent, heart valve, therapy, or medication.
