MD&M East Supplier Focus: GW Plastics

GW Plastics (MD&M East Booth #1715) likes to give its clients options. For those who want to manufacture in China, the company offers strict quality control in its China-based facilities. It can also help companies that are interested in reshoring.

GW Plastics has recently more than doubled the size of its facilities in China--from 50,000 to 125,000 sq-ft. The new facilities offer bothcontract manufacturing and finished device capabilities, says Timothy Reis, VP, healthcare business development."Our expansion in China is going to give us more room for growth in our molding, tooling and finished device manufacturing in China," Reis says.

"Domestically, we are excited about the introduction of highly automated assembly equipment and vision systems to reduce labor, increase output, and quality allowing the potential reshoring of finished device manufacturing from low cost countries."

The company seesan increased need for its services as more companies outsource device manufacturing.

Reis also sees more device OEMs deciding to outsource their design and engineering.

In addition, Reis observes the company's medical device manufacturing clients rely more heavily on strong validation techniques.

In terms of challenges he's seeing in the broader healthcare ecosystem, Reis sees a "growing opportunity in moving patient care to an 'in-home' situation verses a clinical situation as a way to increase point of care and help control medical costs."

As for which technology he's most excited about, Reis points tonew technologies in tool manufacturing like 3-D additive manufacturing. The ability to increase the cooling efficiency of the technology will in turn reduces cycle time, he says. "Looking forward to challenging the robustness in a production molding environment."
