Auto-I 360 Interface Catheter

The Auto-I 360, made by Interface Catheter Solutions, is inspecting a medical balloon for imperfections. This medical balloon can be used to treat peripheral vascular disease.

Developers of a medical balloon inspection system, an innovative friction test for single-use medical devices, and a tiny magnetic reed sensor were among finalists vying Wednesday to become the 2015 Supplier Innovation Challenge winner at MD&M West in Anaheim, CA.

The identity of the winner was published late Wednesday on Qmed/MPMN's sister media outlet MD+DI. Click here to find out.

After a review of the submissions conducted by UBM Canon's editorial team, 10 finalists were chosen last week among MD&M West exhibitors, with readers then given the opportunity to pick the winner.

Finalists of special note in the voting include:

  • Interface Catheter Solutions (Laguna Niguel, CA) is the creator of the Auto - I 360, an automated inspection system of medical balloons to detect visual defects and perform dimensional inspection. It is an activity presently performed by human inspectors.

  • RTP Co. (Winona, MN) has an innovative friction test for single-use medical devices. It helps original equipment manufacturers determine what a material's coefficient of friction is.

  • Coto Technology ( North Kingston, RI) has created a magnetic reed sensor so tiny that it is a mere 1.35 mm by 0.84 mm. It can be used in a wide variety of medical devices such as insulin pumps, capsule endoscopes and hearing aids among others.
