BIOMEDevice San Jose

BIOMEDevice San Jose offers a great chance to network with your medtech industry peers.

Here are highlights you will definitely want to see at BIOMEDevice San Jose, December 2-3 at the San Jose Convention Center:

1. Looking to the Future of Medicine

The BIOMEDevice San Jose conference will feature a session from healthcare futurist and author Joe Flower, who will give a keynote address on how the healthcare crisis is triggering the opportunity to move beyond niche device problem solving. Attendees can also attend sessions on topics like designing smartphones and tablets into medical devices, the convergence of technology and fashion, and reimbursement strategies.

2. The Rapid-Fire Pitch Competition

The organizers of BIOMEDevice San Jose are offering a chance for healthcare technology startups to gain publicity by participating in the inaugural "Rapid-Fire Pitch Competition."  Participating startups will each have the opportunity to present their one-minute elevator pitch to a panel of investors to gain invaluable feedback and a chance to secure investment. Three winners will win prizes.

3. Advice on How to Avoid Medical Device Hacking

In 2011, the software security expert Jay Radcliffe hacked his insulin pump on stage at the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas, demonstrating that a remote user could take control over the pump, potentially delivering a fatal dose of insulin. Radcliffe was a trailblazer in the field, advocating to both FDA and industry to help make devices safer. And he'll be providing a keynote at BIOMEDevie San Jose.

4. The Latest Technologies

On the BIOMEDevice San Jose show floor, you can browse the more than 300 exhibitor booths, meeting face-to-face with suppliers and service providers who specialize in medtech. This year's expo floor will also feature an innovation zone, where you can check out the latest medical devices to hit the market and even some still in development. You'll see an IoT cast, a smartphone-connected fertility device, and a wearable device that allows for noninvasive monitoring and analysis of blood composition.

5. Lots of Networking

Perhaps the most valuable opportunity at BIOMEDevice San Jose will be the chance to network with your medtech industry peers. To make the most of your time, sign up for a speed networking session, in which you'll be paired with like-minded professionals for 10-minute mini-meetings. For a more casual environment, join the booth crawl at the end of the first day to browse the exhibitor booths and mingle with your peers while enjoying a drink.

6. IDEO Design Workshop

Team members from one of the most design firms in the country will be on hand to guide attendees through the finer points of design thinking and prototyping.

7. Designers of Things

A Designers of Things conference track will tackle a variety of subjects ranging from wearables, the Internet of Things, and ingestible sensors.
