A series of nonmolded, magnetically operated open-reed proximity switches have been developed specifically for surface-mount PCB assembly. The MK23 series sensors are suited for use in medical equipment applications that require little or no external power for operation. Variations in available glass size, power, switching voltage, switching current, and breakdown voltage make these reed switches versatile. Suited for various pad layouts, they are more compact than overmolded sensors and can be designed into any application requiring single- or multipoint position or liquid-level sensing, according to their manufacturer. The switches are supplied in single-pole single-throw, single-pole double-throw, and multiple-lead configurations. The latest version is a sensor that comes in five contact sensitivity ranges and low- and high-power configurations. This sensor features glass components ranging in size from 7 to 21 mm.
