Heat-Shrink Tubing Designed for Complex Multicomponent Products

Seamless thin-wall and ultra-thin-wall PVC and PET heat-shrink tubing is available to enable medical device designers to develop small, thin, complex multicomponent products that exhibit good durability, flexural strength, and leak resistance. The shrink film is offered in a variety of thicknesses to deliver the level of stiffness and flexibility control desired in a balloon catheter needing reinforcement. The tubing can also be used to cover sharp edges, bundle multiple plastic or metal tubes and wires, contain optical fibers or multistrand braided components, cover spring coils, or mask radiopaque areas. As an alternative to liquid coatings, the uniform, nonconductive tubing can be applied over metal or braided shafts as a means of joining dissimilar materials or providing low-profile encapsulation for electrical insulation.
