OUTSOURCING NEWS

Point Technologies uses precision wire, tube micromachining, and electrochemical polishing to create critical components and subcomponents for medical devices.

Point Technologies Inc., a component manufacturer based in Boulder, CO, has been acquired by American Medical Instruments Holdings Inc. (Lake Forest, IL) in a stock purchase deal. American Medical did not disclose the financial details of the sale.

With the acquisition, Point Technologies will become the contract manufacturing division of American Medical, catering to large, medium, and small finished-device manufacturers. Point Technologies will take over the resources of the existing Inter-V OEM division, which comprises Manan Medical Products, Medical Device Technologies, and American Medical Instruments. The division will have manufacturing sites in Colorado, Minnesota, Illinois, Florida, Massachusetts, and Costa Rica.

In addition, the division will enlarge its technology center and enhance its service offerings. Prototype design, advanced micromachining processes, assembly, and final packaging are currently available in some facilities.

Point Technologies manufactures critical components and subcomponents for medical device development companies. It specializes in precision wire and tube micromachining, burr-free cutting, and electrochemical pointing and plating for small-diameter wire and tubing. The acquisition will add device assembly, plastic injection molding, wire and tube grinding, laser welding, and final packaging to Point Technologies' capabilities. The contract manufacturing division will provide incision technology for endoscopic, ophthalmic, arthroscopic, orthopedic, and other minimally invasive applications.
