Some Infertility Treatments Linked to Higher Heart Disease Risk During Delivery

New findings show that assisted reproductive technology – or ART – a category of infertility treatments in which the eggs or embryos are manipulated to improve a woman's chances of becoming pregnant are linked to higher heart risks in women during delivery.

Researchers analyzed hospital data from the National Inpatient Sample for nearly 46 million deliveries in the U.S. from 2008 to 2019, including 108,542 babies conceived using ART. The study found women who used ART had more cardiovascular risk factors, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes during pregnancy.
