Tracy T. Lefteroff is global managing partner for life sciences industry services at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (New York City). Based in San Jose, Lefteroff is in charge of services for publicly held, privately owned, and venture capital-funded life sciences companies worldwide. He has been significantly involved with services provided to a number of the firm's life sciences companies and venture capital firms, including Scios, VaxGen, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Monogram Biosciences, Affymax, Vnus Medical, ArthroCare, Pharmacyclics, FoxHollow Technologies, and DeNovo Ventures. Lefteroff has been key in the development of strategic collaborative agreements with many major international pharmaceutical companies and recently assisted in several high-profile industry mergers. He also coauthored the firm's practice standards and aids for the life sciences industry.

Lefteroff has been with PricewaterhouseCoopers for approximately 18 years, including three years in the company's Seattle office, where he was closely involved with the firm's venture capital and life sciences clients. He currently resides in the firm's offices in San Jose and Menlo Park, CA.

Lefteroff currently serves on the boards of directors for the Biotechnology Industry Organization's emerging companies governance section, the Stanford Venture Laboratory, and the California Healthcare Institute. He has served as treasurer of the Washington State Biotechnology Association, chairman of the MIT Enterprise Forum of the Northwest, and as a member of the high-technology committee of the Washington Society of CPAs. James Press is corporate controller at Applied Imaging Corp. (San Jose), a supplier of automated imaging and image analysis systems for the detection and characterization of chromosomes and molecular markers in genetics and cancer applications. In November 2006, Applied Imaging was acquired by Genetix Group plc (New Milton, Hampshire, UK) in an all-cash transaction valued at $25.8 million.

Press has more than 20 years' public accounting and private industry experience in public and private foreign and domestic companies in the high-technology software, computer, and medical device industries. His experience includes positions as accounting director, controller, and internal audit management.

Carl S. Saba is a senior manager in the consulting group at Burr, Pilger & Mayer LLP (San Francisco) and has been delivering results to middle-market companies for more than 11 years. He assists with strategic planning and positioning, resolving internal process flow and systems issues, budgeting and forecasting, product line profitability analysis, structuring financing arrangements, and negotiating with creditors and private equity groups on behalf of financially distressed companies.

Saba also advises companies on valuation issues for tax, financial reporting, and mergers and acquisitions transactions. His valuation expertise spans business valuation, early-stage company valuation, valuation of intellectual property and other intangible assets, and valuation of options and other derivatives. He has advised on implementation of purchase price allocations and impairment testing and employee stock option plans.

Saba has a bachelor's degree in business administration and finance from UC Berkeley. He also earned an MBA from the University of Southern California, where he graduated in the top tier of his class and was granted membership in Beta Gamma Sigma, a national business honor society. T. J. Sponsel is director of business development for Hull & Knarr (Greenwood, IN), where he works with the firm's alliance network partner firms to help them address their clients' needs for specialty tax services. Acting as a liaison between Hull & Knarr and the other partner firms, Sponsel answers questions and coordinates services. He also serves as a resource to local and regional accounting firms that are considering the benefits of becoming alliance network partners.

In addition to serving alliance network partner firms, Sponsel works directly with companies in identifying their opportunities involving specialty tax services.

Before joining Hull & Knarr, Sponsel served family-owned and closely held businesses for a prominent Indianapolis CPA firm. He was involved with individual and corporate taxation, business valuation, litigation support services, and strategic financial planning.

Scott Taylor is a partner in the assurance services practice of Burr, Pilger & Mayer LLP (San Francisco), where he is coleader of the firm's life sciences group. He has 22 years of public accounting and private industry experience in the investment, real estate, healthcare, technology, venture capital, biotechnology, nonprofit, and financial service industries. He consults with management on a variety of accounting and tax services including financial statements, implementation of accounting systems, preparation of forecasts and budgets, litigation support, and business plan development.

A certified valuation analyst, Taylor received a BA in business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an MS in taxation at Golden Gate University (San Francisco).

Taylor serves on the boards of directors for Eldercare Alliance and the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the quality inspection team for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a member of the California Society of CPAs, a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, and past president of the Mid-Peninsula Page Mill YMCA.
