BUSINESS PLANNING & TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT
Inogen Inc. (Goleta, CA) hired (Irvine, CA) to help develop the Inogen One, a lightweight, efficient, quiet, and portable oxygen concentrator that runs on batteries. Prior to bringing Omnica onboard, the company had already completed a portion of the initial development and had identified some proprietary components it wanted to incorporate into the final design. Over the period of about a year, the company's group completed the electronics and software development. Concurrently, Omnica handled the industrial design, mechanical layout, internal and external packaging, battery case, chargers, carts, satellite conserver valve, manifold design, and the extrusion and chassis assembly. Omnica worked with other vendors to successfully miniaturize the pneumatics and valving for use in the lightweight design. It built the production test equipment, the manifold leak testers, and later approved the first articles. The Inogen One is currently the only oxygen concentrator that meets all Federal Aviation Administration requirements for use on aircraft. It has won three awards, including a 2006 Medical Design Excellence Award.
