During the second quarter of 2017, the medical devices and equipment subsector of the U.S. healthcare market drew the second-highest amount of funding dollars. According to The PwC/CB Insights MoneyTree™ Report, the $724 million invested in the subsector was second only to the $996 million invested in biotechnology companies.

While slightly lower than the $788 million invested in medical device and equipment during the first quarter of the year, this quarter’s investments were still significantly higher than the amounts invested during the 2016 quarter. There were fewer deals done this quarter than last—53 versus 66 in the first quarter of 2017—but the deal volume was higher than that seen in the last three quarters of 2016.

These were the 10 largest venture capital investments in medical device and equipment companies during the second quarter of 2017.
