INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES

Agfa HealthCare offers the Impax Clinical Module, a new software component for the Impax radiologo information system and picture archiving and communications system (RIS-PACS). The module brings disparate clinical data such as lab results, pharmacy, and pathology to the Impax radiology desktop. The new solution moves beyond the traditioinal RIS-PACS focus by bringing clinical information that radiologists need from multiple sources into a single desktop location. Having this information available in real time, from multiple systems with a single log-on, saves the physician time and could potentially result in improved decisions.

To address the demands of today's 64-slice computed tomography (CT) work flow, Siemens Medical Solutions (Malvern, PA) introduced Somatom Sensation Web Selection, a Web-enabled CT. By providing instant accessibility to 3-D volume data anytime, anywhere, the solution turns any internet-connected, diagnostic-quality personal computer or laptop into a thin-client clinical workstation, providing physicians with more information and a faster diagnosis for better patient care.

The CartoMerge image integration module by BioSense Webster Inc. (Diamond Bar, CA), a Johnson & Johnson company, enables electrophysiologists to create 3-D electroanatomical maps that are registered with computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images. Merging with CT-MRI image with the 3-D Carto XP system maps gives electrophysiologists a more precise view of the heart, allowing them to better navigate catheters to targeted points within the heart. The CartoMerge software module, used with the Biosense Webster Carto XP EP navigation system, enables physicians to accrately locate and map arrhythmias. Additional benefits of the image integration module include full DICOM 3 compatibility, minimal point acquisition for effective development of treatment strategy, new tools for procedure planning and targeting, and improved speed of the system.
