ATEK Medical's facility in Costa Rica specializes in single-use and electrodisposable devices, as well as implantables.

ATEK Medical LLC (Minneapolis), a division of ATEK Companies, has opened a medical device manufacturing facility in Heredia, Costa Rica. The new facility significantly expands the company's manufacturing capacity and helps the firm address its clients' requirements for regional manufacturing and distribution.

“With our new Costa Rica facility, we allow our customers to remain focused on product leadership while providing them with a complete manufacturing solution. They receive the same high-quality products in a region of the world that is strategically located for distribution,” says Dave Mabie, vice president of business development at ATEK Medical.

Specializing in Class II single-use and electrodisposable devices, as well as Class III implantable devices, the 33,000-sq-ft facility provides ATEK clients with complete manufacturing capabilities, from intellectual property development to product design, validation, and launch. Located in a free trade zone, the facility is designed to accommodate clients' needs for efficient product transfers, competitive cost-per-piece manufacturing, and sterile packaging.

“Quality is as important to us as it is to our clients,” says Kay Phillips, president of ATEK Companies. “Expanding our manufacturing operations to Costa Rica is a direct result of our commitment to provide clients with the same level of quality [that] they have come to expect from our facilities in the United States.”

The Costa Rica facility opened in October and operations began in January. With a focus on operational efficiency, select client applications from ATEK's Grand Rapids facility have already been transferred. Eventually, new projects will begin in the Grand Rapids location and be moved to the Costa Rica facility.
