Hansjoerg Wyss    Net Worth: $6.1 Billion      Hansjoerg Wyss created his wealth through his leadership over the decades of Synthes.The Swiss native helped build Synthes into a major orthopedic and trauma device maker before it was sold to Johnson & Johnson for $19.7 billion in 2012. Forbes says Wyss's wealth remains substantial, even as he donates it toward causes including land conservation, the major focus of his Wyss Foundation. Wyss is also a big booster of Harvard, where he earned an MBA in 1965. In 2009, he donated $125 million to establish the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, and followed up by announcing another $125 million donation last year.
