ON Semiconductor Corp. (Phoenix, AZ), a supplier of silicon-based products for the medical device industry, among others, has announced that it will acquire a subsidiary of Sanyo Electric Company, Ltd. (Tokyo) and other assets related to the company's semiconductor business. The acquisition will expand ON Semiconductor's capabilities to include microcontrollers, custom ASICs, integrated power modules, and analog manufacturing.


Solvay Advanced Polymers LLC (Alpharetta, GA) has partnered with the Tego polymers unit of Entegris Inc. (Billerica, MA) to develop carbon nanotube (CNT)-enhanced PEEK products for medical and other applications. Solvay will supply its KetaSpire PEEK resin to Entegris, which will sell compounds that employ its CNT-enhanced technology. Read about CNT-enhanced Tego polymers in a recent MPMN article.

Plastic and metal injection molder Polymer Technology Inc. (Clifton, NJ) has passed the recertification audit reviewing the company's AS9100B certification, which indicates that the company continues to meet and exceed the requirements of ISO 9001:2008. The company next plans on obtaining ISO 13485 certification in order to fully support the needs of the medical device industry.
