Sparton Medical Systems (Schaumburg, IL), a supplier of electronics and electromechanical components, has announced that it will acquire certain assets related to the contract manufacturing business of Delphi Medical Systems LLC (Longmont, CO). Delphi specializes in the contract manufacture of medical products for the therapeutic device market, including blood-separation equipment, spinal surgery products, and 3-D eye-mapping devices.
Medical device engineering and manufacturing company Minnetronix (St. Paul, MN) will expand its 45,500-sq-ft facility to include an additional 11,800 sq ft. The space will be dedicated to administrative, product design, laboratory, and training functions.
Secant Medical (Perkasie, PA), which designs, develops, and manufactures biomedical textiles, has announced a partnership with DSM Dyneema (Stanley, NC), maker of what it claims is the strongest medical-grade fiber currently on the market. The companies anticipate that the collaboration will allow them to combine high-performance UHMWPE fiber with innovative textile structures in order to enhance product design and performance of implantable medical devices.
Composite material engineering provider Polygon Co. (Walkerton, IN) has obtained ISO 14001 certification, which codifies the measurement and reduction of waste and its environmental impact. The company maintains that it is one of the first composite manufacturing companies to obtain this certification; composite materials are often wasted in manufacturing processes.
