Performance Metrics Key to Fixing Outsourcing Issues

OUTSOURCING NEWS

Outsourcing analysts from Technology Forecasters Inc. (Alameda, CA) have developed a program that can help device OEMs audit key performance metrics. The TFI Outsourcing Audit is configurable and scalable to OEMs, whether they are inexperienced or seasoned outsourcers, and their electronic manufacturing service (EMS) suppliers.

“In many respects, the historical outsourcing model is broken,” says TFI vice president Bruce Rayner. “Companies must engage with their outsourcing suppliers in new ways to ensure the viability of their industries.”

The program offers an array of consulting services, including geographic price and risk analysis, a relationship-management audit for OEMs and EMS suppliers, and end-to-end supply-chain assessment for networks and inventories. Analysts can also work with OEMs to create a road map for supplychain advancement.

Another key aspect of the program is the environmental audit. Consultants can evaluate both the products and the processes for manufacturing them for compliance with global environmental mandates such as RoHS. Clients can also have their information technology resources examined to see how they affect supplier relationships, the selection of EMS suppliers, and the organizational structure for managing suppliers. Analysts provide recommendations for improving performance in each of these areas.

“There is a critical need for a comprehensive, multienterprise program to bring all key players and challenges together and create fresh, sustainable strategies,” says company president Pamela Gordon. “[Companies] need an objective third party to help them address these challenges.”

TFI offers consultation on global outsourcing issues and environmental strategies.
