NuSil Technology (Carpinteria, CA) acquired Rhodia Silicones' (Ventura, CA) long-term-implantable silicones business. As a result of the agreement announced in June, NuSil will now service all of Rhodia's former U.S. and international long-term device customers. The sale encompasses more than 30 long-term implantable products, including tubing and sheeting materials, as well as manufacturing equipment. The acquired silicone products are used in a number of medical device applications, such as cochlear implants, stomach elastic bands, and pacemaker electric-lead coating. Rhodia's Ventura facility will continue to manufacture a range of silicone products, which includes liquid-silicone and high-consistency rubber, dispersion, adhesive, gel, elastomer, and RTV products.
