If the product manufacturer's research team has carefully selected investigators for the clinical trial, then those investigators will constitute a strong pool from which to choose conference speakers. Prominent physicians attached to an academic medical center should be the company's preferred investigators, as long as they can give the clinical trial adequate attention.
If there is any doubt about a lead physician's level of commitment, a junior member of the same medical group would be a fine alternative. Often, such a person sees involvement in a clinical trial as a path for career advancement. An ambitious younger physician might also be more willing to contribute design modifications and write articles.
