Medtech Startups Win Massachusetts New Venture Competition

Three medtech startups were named as winners of the Second Annual Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center New Venture Competition award program. This program provides capital for medtech companies that hold some of the most promising technologies in the state. Winners included BioSignostix, Cellanyx Diagnostics and Little Sparrows.Judges at the Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center Innovation Hub assigned scores to pitches given by the owners of participating companies. All 15 companies that reached the last round were provided with a free poster session to pitch ideas.The first-place prize for $10,000 in legal and development services went towards addressing neonatal jaundice. A People's Choice award for $2,000 also went to Gweepi Medical, a urinary incontinence management startup."The M2D2 new venture competition is becoming a signature event for medical device entrepreneurs," noted William C. Geary III. Geary is a co-managing partner at Nutter, an event sponsor. He continued, "Our lawyers coach the entrants on their pitches and expose them to potential funding sources. It's exciting to see the innovation taking place, and our participation is a way to contribute to a strong medical device industry with a competitive future."
