3-D Inspection System Can Capture Internal and External Geometry of Injection-Molded Parts

A desktop 3-D inspection system can simultaneously capture the internal and external geometry of injection-molded first article parts. Parts are encased in special material and placed inside the Pearl-700, which shaves off an ultrathin layer. The system’s camera captures a high-resolution of each newly exposed cross-section, and software converts the image into edge-detected points. These points are stacked up to create a complete 3-D point cloud model of the part. The model is measured and an inspection report is printed.
