Supplier Stories for the Week of July 7

Here’s what was new in the world of medical device suppliers during the week of July 7.

  • Florida Anodize System & Technologies Inc. (FAST) reported that its quality management system for medical device surface coating services has been audited by TÜV SÜD and found to be in full compliance with ISO 13485:2016, FAST shared in a news release. TÜV SÜD conducts testing, product certification, inspection, auditing, and system certification for medical devices.

The company was assessed and certified for the application of surface coatings for medical devices, including its FAST ColourLock anodic coating. “FAST has over 20 years of experience in the industry, and the FAST ColourLock process for medical devices is proven to be a high quality and repeatable at scale," said Neel Patel, vice president. "Additionally, with this latest ISO certification, our management team and ownership further commit to upholding the stringent quality standards that make us a reliable partner and the leader in the medical anodic coating field.”

FAST specializes in anodic coatings that withstand repeated exposure to harsh sterilization methods in order to retain color, which the company noted is increasingly being used as part of human factors focused design for differentiation purposes to reduce operator error and improve patient outcomes.

  • Metal 3D printing technology company 3DEO Inc. hosted the two winning teams of Carrot Group’s Mission: Impact Challenge – Connected Community challenge on their VIP Innovation Tour. Funded by Venus and Serena Williams, the program is designed to inspire middle and high school students from Compton Unified School District "to dream up solutions leveraging technology to quickly identify the signs and symptoms of those experiencing trauma and build a connected community for support and healing," 3DEO shared in a news release. The Grand Prize was a VIP Innovation Tour around Los Angeles to meet leading innovators and experience breakthrough technologies.

The six students met the 3DEO team and took a tour led by Elias Ashe, a mechanical engineer at 3DEO, who shared a peek into 3DEO’s R&D room. Ashe demonstrated how 3DEO uses plastic printers to make parts for its metal 3D printers, and students witnessed real-time printing of plastic elephants and got to each take one home. They then learned about production metal 3D printing and 3DEO’s proprietary technology, Intelligent Layering. The tour wrapped up with a visit to 3DEO’s in-house machine shop, where the students learned more about post-processing operations.

  • Haydon Kerk Pittman has introduced its latest brushless DC motors: the EC042B IDEA Motor Series. The programmable IDEA Motor integrates a precision brushless servo motor with an IDEA Drive controller in a compact package to reduce design time, wiring needs, and cabinet space, leading to lower overall system costs, the company reported in a news release.

Available in three motor lengths, each with optional factory-configurable gearboxes, the EC042B IDEA Motor is suited for lab automation, medical devices, communications equipment, semiconductor processing equipment, aerospace systems, and many other applications where precision motion and compact packaging are critical.

The motor is equipped with real-time embedded motion control. A single motor/drive unit reduces motion system components by up to 75% per axis and simplifies machine troubleshooting. Further reductions can be achieved by wiring sensor inputs and control outputs directly to the IDEA Motor, rather than through a control cabinet, the company reported.

RS-485 communications fieldbus ports are integrated for programming autonomous motion sequences, monitoring system status, or streaming commands to synchronize motion among multiple motors. Since additional communications protocols will be released in the near future, please consult on new opportunities with your Haydon Kerk Pittman Sales Representative or Application Engineers at https://www.haydonkerkpittman.com/contactus/application-support.
