  • Colorite, a Tekni-Plex business unit, will be discussing its polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compound solutions as well as its Cellene line of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) compounds at MD&M West Booth 1739, February 6-8 in Anaheim.

    “Many companies are trying to proactively address new regulatory dynamics, both in the United States and in many other global regions,” said Ian Kenny, global managing director, Colorite, in a new release. “While our PVC compound solutions will continue to be the product of choice for most applications around the world, some healthcare systems are already implementing strategic initiatives for phthalate-free patient environments. For those applications, our non-phthalate PVC compounds or our Cellene compounds are ideal. IV therapy producers have been among the first conversions in North America.”

    Cellene TPEs can be used for a wide variety of uses in medical devices, packaging, and other regulated markets. Cellene compounds are formulated using FDA-compliant raw materials to meet USP Class VI and ISO 10993 standards. 

    Colorite also offers an extensive line of custom PVC compounds for extrusion, injection, and blow molding processes. They are available with gamma radiation resistance as well as self-frosting and radiopaque materials.

  • Qosina is adding 12 new stopcocks to its existing selection of bulk, non-sterile components. These new stopcocks are REACH and RoHS compliant and feature low profiles, low pressure ratings, and unique configurations that include build-in styles, the company reports in a press release.

    Offering nearly 100 different options from which to choose, Qosina provides 1-way, 2-way, 3-way, and 4-way stopcocks and stopcock manifolds, with connection options that include male luer locks, female luer locks, male luer slips, barbs, and tubing ports. All are offered in a variety of materials and colors for all of your prototyping and production requirements.

    Qosina is ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and ISO 14001 registered and runs a 95,000 square-foot facility with an ISO Class 8 cleanroom.

  • Binder USA LP is introducing the 570 ELC Series Easy Locking Connectors designed for applications such as patient monitoring in the medical and home health care industry. With a circular layout featuring 12 gold-plated pins, the ELC connectors employ an intuitive locking system with snap hooks and clearly set mating position to prevent mismating. The female panel mount connector provides IP54 protection from intrusion of liquids, water splash, and touching of the contacts, the company reports in a news release.

    Features of the 570 ELC Series include:

  • MicroCare Medical, a division of MicroCare Corp., will highlight a new cleaning solution for medical devices, the new Tergo Chlorine-Free Cleaning Fluid, at MD&M West Expo in Anaheim, CA, February 6-8.  The nonflammable Tergo Chlorine-Free Cleaning Fluid is specifically engineered to clean the most challenging contamination while complying with global environmental regulations restricting the use of smog-producing volatile organics (VOCs).

    “As medical components become more critical, smaller and more complex, cleaning them can be a technical challenge,” said Tom Tattersall, MicroCare Chief Operating Officer, in a news release. “Users also need to consider the strict regulatory requirements within the medical device industry, and many times the conflicting environmental regulations imposed in different regions of the world. Tergo CFCF solves most if not all of those problems.

    “There must be no residue left on medical components, so finding a chemistry that can provide exceptional cleaning can be difficult. Tergo Chlorine-Free Cleaning Fluid handles even the most difficult contamination and is highly effective for quickly and gently cleaning delicate substrates.   • Haydon Kerk, a business unit of AMETEK Advanced Motion Solutions, now offers a prototyping service called 3DP, which provides 3-D-printed leadscrew-nut insert prototypes so that machine builders can verify linear-motion design iterations quickly and more accurately.

    The 3DP nuts are made of advanced materials engineered for production-part performance. "That means the nuts transmit power in a way that’s more representative of how standard volume parts will operate under load, which in turn boosts design-verification accuracy," the company reports in a press release. The 3DP nut inserts are currently offered in a lubricated polyacetal or a proprietary Kerkite KN30, a self-lubricating, high-performance engineered polymer.

    The leadscrew-nut inserts have a threaded interior (with a high-efficiency thread form) and a hex-shaped exterior to embed into flanged nut bodies or into more-complex 3D-printed prototype assemblies. In addition to the hex shape, which radially locks the insert into the nut body or assembly, each insert also includes a ring groove that (with adhesive) axially locks it into place, the company reports.
