Lilly Unveils Insulin Pen with Memory

Eli Lilly and Co. today rolled out the world's first insulin pen with a memory chip, reports the Associated Press. The Memoir's chip remembers the last 16 insulin doses delivered, which could reduce the frequency of users' having to prick themselves to take blood-sugar readings. The Memoir, which was developed with Battelle Medical Device Solutions, is for use with the drug Humalog. The potential drawback is cost: The pen will sell for $100, and cartridges are extra.

To combat this, Lilly is offering coupons for more than half off the price of the pen.
