Nihon Kohden recently announced that its ventilators, which include the NKV-550 series, NKV-440, and NKV-330 ventilator systems, are the first in the industry to receive Authority to Operate (ATO) certification under the Department of Defense’s Risk Management Framework eMASS #3389. The cybersecurity certification means, according to the company, that Nihon Kohden’s ventilators meet the highest standards for data protection and operational security in healthcare settings.

Benefits of having such certification include stronger patient data protection, faster setup and installation, and lower risk of cyber-attacks.

The company also committed to maintaining ATO-certification to “ensure its ventilators remain at the forefront of cybersecurity protection,” according to the press release.

“Our ATO-certified ventilators represent a new standard in medical device security,” said Roy Sakai, president of Nihon Kohden America, in the release. “This certification shows our commitment to protecting patient data and supporting healthcare providers in today’s digital world.”
