Kevin Fu is Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan. But he lands on this list because of a different title - Director of Archimedes, Ann Arbor Research Center for Medical Device Security. His research focuses on low-power and trustworthy computing for medical devices.

The Institute of Medicine commissioned Fu's 2011 report on the role of trustworthy software in the context of the 510(k) medical device regulations. Fu has also provided panel statements as well as been invited to talk at the Institute of Medicine, the President’s Innovation and Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC), the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health (FDA CDRH), the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and several research labs.

Since January 2013, he has also taught the first college-level course on Medical Device Security at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. In September, he won the 2013 World Economic Forum Young Scientist Award. He was one of 40 individuals under the age of 40 who won by demonstrating scientific excellence, commitment to society, and potential to contribute to transforming the world through scientific knowledge.
