US, China to Sign Safety Pact

The United States and China will sign a pair of agreements that will ensure that medical devices and other regulated products imported from China will meet U.S. safety standards, Reuters News reports, quoting Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt. Chinese imports of medical, hospital and scientific equipment grew to $1.87 billion in 2006, yet a series of recalls in various industries have raised concerns about the safety of Chinese goods.
