Need Your AAOS Fix?Need Your AAOS Fix?
February 16, 2011
If you're wishing that you were at the AAOS annual meeting right now in San Diego, let me start off by saying, rumor has it that it's raining there (yes, rain in San Diego). And in other news, there are hundreds of device companies at the show, many of which use this event to introduce their latest products. Cayenne Medical, a young company from Scottsdale, AZ, just launched the next generation of its AperFix device for ACL repair. The company has come far in the past few years and has the ultimate goal of providing head-to-toe treatment for patients. Other device highlights include Exactech's innovations in bone cement, implants, and instrumentation; a lower limb imaging system from EOS imaging that gives clinicians a 3-D weight-bearing image in seconds (at a lower dose of radiation to patients too); and a knee implant endorsement (and live appearance) from tennis icon Billie Jean King. King had double knee replacement surgery last year and received Smith & Nephew's Legion knee with Verilast technology. She says that the knees have worked so well that "I feel like I'm 20 again." Don't I wish. --Maria Fontanazza
