Hypertension May Have Device Solution
CVRx Inc. (Maple Grove, MN) received a go-ahead this week from FDA to begin U.S. clinical trials on a device that uses electrical stimulation to treat high blood pressure, the Star Tribune of Minneapolis reports. The Rheos Baroreflex Hypertension Therapy System is targeted at patients with extremely high blood pressure for whom at least three drug therapies haven't worked. The device is implanted beneath the collarbone and sends electrical impulses through leads into the carotid arteries.
