The Bush Administration plans to launch an ambitious standards effort that could boost the use of information technology in hospitals. According to the Washington Post, the president plans to sign an executive order that would require all facilities that treat Medicare patients to adopt quality-measurement tools and uniform standards for information technology. The idea is to increase quality of care while clamping down on healthcare-cost inflation.
