Design Watch: miniMe Biometric Device Wins iF Award

Tag another win for medical devices based on application services. The miniMe, from Ergonomodesign consultancy, has received an iF product design award 2012.

I caught up with Anna Romboli at Ergonomodesign who explained that the MiniMe exemplifies a new healthcare strategy: one that emphasizes personalized health with mobile applications in a service-like environment.

"MiniME is a concept device, part of a large ecosystem putting all stakeholders and services together in the concept describing "The Future of Integrated Health Care," says Romboli.

MiniME connects biometric sensors placed on the body to track health stats using RFID and near field communication. It measures ECG, blood pressure, heart rate, pulse oximetry, body temperature, blood glucose, cholesterol, hemoglobin and prothrombin time. Data are communicated through a cloud or internet site and shared with healthcare professionals via mobile devices.

Ergonomidesign's product designers teamed with interaction designers, and strategists as well as conceptual engineers, and health care professionals to develop the system.
